Now that this project is officially a go, I need to source some replacement parts. So as a starting point I thought I’ll see what official replacement parts from ULS will cost, before I try to hack something together. So I put together a quick list based on my first impressions during the tear-down.
Optical Path: [basically everything]
- Beam Window Assembly
- #2 Mirror [X-Y axis]
- #3 Mirror and Lens Assembly [X-Z axis]
Mechanical:
- Y Bearings [Both Sides]
- X Bearings
- X Belt
- Y Belts [Both Sides]
- Z Belt [Short Belt from stepper to primary lead screw]
- X Bearing Track(s)
- Lens/Focus Carriage
- Engraving Table
Most of the above are normal replacement parts that can be ordered, but there are a few that are not, and unfortunately are hinge-pins for the project. These namely are the X bearing track, and the Lens/Focusing carriage. If I can’t get these, I will have to hack together my own solution, which will likely be cheaper, but possibly not as good. I’m sure there are other things I have missed, and possibly a few things listed that might still be salvageable. Nonetheless, I fired off the list to Universal Laser Systems to see where things stand.
